Rest In Peace, Anathi

6 October 2023

Update: From RV United, we are so grateful to all of you who donated to the fundraising effort for Anathi and her family. Fortunately her family is part of a Burial Society in Khayelitsha, who came together to provide the caskets and burials. The organisation Anathi worked with, Amandla, donated Anathi’s headstone and hosted a beautiful memorial on Thursday, 14 September 2023. The community also held an incredible send off on Saturday, 16 September with support from our partner Grassroot Soccer South Africa. The love shown for Anathi and her family has been a blessing.

Because Anathi’s mother and grandmother are now raising four young children in the household, we are donating all remaining funds directly to her family. In total, ZAR 11,400 and USD $1,365 (ZAR 26,415) has been donated in Anathi’s honour, and the remaining funds going to Anathi’s family total ZAR 32,285.

Thank you all again, we are humbled and hopeful in Anathi’s light 🕯️

Dear friends of RV United,

We have devastating news of one of our brightest, kindest, and funniest footballers and facilitators, Anathi Mabilwana.

Anathi, her girlfriend, niece, and older sister were tragically murdered in a house fire–LGBTQI hate crime in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. We are all heartbroken and trying to support her family in any way we can.

We know you also care for Anathi, and our hope is to come together to support her family and show them how important Anathi is to all of us.

There are a few ways you can donate. We suggest via the RVU donate page and send to our South Africa account via EFT, PayPal, or SnapScan. Please include ‘Anathi’ as the reference so we ensure all funds go directly to her family. You can also support us from afar via PayPal or GoFundMe. If you prefer Zelle, please contact us.

Anathi will always be a bright light and is greatly missed.

Rest in Peace, Anathi 🕯️
