Football Development
Khayelitsha’s first all-girls football team, RV United, has three divisions, junior, regional and SASOL League, and uses football to encourage physical health, self-esteem and equitable gender norms for girls and young women.
Wellness & Life Skills
Created in response to local demand, RV United gives adolescent girls positive role models, encourages physical health, builds self-esteem, challenges harmful gender norms, and empowers them to create active, healthy lifestyles.
Academic Enrichment
Sport is an essential tool for social empowerment, and RV United takes a holistic approach to player development. Senior RV players coach younger female players in football and life skills, focus on academic tutoring, monitor school performance and teach skills to succeed in school and life.
Economic Empowerment
RV United provides leadership training and financial education for Senior players, including SAFA D and C Licenses, First Aid, introduction to entrepreneurship and more. To fundraise for the team's matches and community development activities, RV has a partnership with Ragball International to make and sell artisan soccer balls from recycled materials.
